So, apparently we’ve been a little too snarky lately and have been coming off like “haters,” so here’s a reversal: we’re totally excited for Steve McQueen‘s next effort “Shame” which is being led by two of our favorite thesps, Michael Fassbender and the confirmed Carey Mulligan.
Word first arrived of Mulligan’s casting at the end of November in reports from Irish media, and now everything appears to be signed, stamped and delivered as the trades are now confirming the news. The plot revolves around Brandon (Fassbender), a Manhattan office worker with a hopeless sex addiction and as we guessed, Mulligan will be playing Sissy, his troubled sister, a blues singer who comes to stay for a few days. In addition James Badge Dale is on board as Brandon’s boss.
Filming is set to kick off in January and the project seems like a no-brainer certainty for the Venice/Telluride/TIFF route and it’s already set to hit UK cinemas before the end of 2011. We’re big fans of McQueen’s debut “Hunger,” and admirers of everyone involved and we can’t wait to see how this turns out.
