Emily Blunt Will Get An Offer To Possibly Star With Jason Segel In ‘Five-Year Engagement’

You Know, Like Shortly And Stuff…

Believe us, we know. This is about as bottom of the barrel scraping as it gets in terms of offer stories and we hope it isn’t a sign of things to come. The last thing we need are publicists ringing up outlets to let them know when someone at CAA is about to click the “Send” button.

All that said, there is a bunch of things about Vulture’s report that Emily Blunt is “about to be offered” a role opposite Jason Segel in “Five-Year Engagement” that makes sense. First up, Blunt’s option with 20th Century Fox is over. According to Vulture, Nicholas Stoller and Jason Segel (who wrote “Five-Year Engagement“) offered her the role of Jackie Q in “Get Him To The Greek,” but she had to turn it down and grit her teeth and star in the absolutely atrocious looking “Gulliver’s Travels.” However, it’s likely Blunt enjoyed working with Segel on ‘Gulliver’ (which also has some script work by Stoller) and we wouldn’t be surprised if indeed an offer is on the way for her to team up with the duo again.

So what is this movie all about? This summer, Segel described the picture as sort of like “If Sarah Marshall and Jason’s character had stayed together, this might be the sequel.” The film will follow “a couple that gets engaged, very enthusiastically, and then follows them over five years of not getting married and just being engaged… break ups, cross country moves, meeting new people, basically about the fluidity of relationships in your 20s.” The plan at the time was to shoot the picture this upcoming spring which we would imagine is still the case.

So we’ll see how this one turns out. As for Blunt, she’s very busy currently shooting an untitled semi-improvised comedy with Lynn Shelton, and after that she’ll move on to Rian Johnson‘s “Looper” which is gearing up for a January shoot. She was also recently linked to the awful sounding “Engagement Games” which is a project that we hope disappears off her plate.
