Kree-Skrull Conflict In ‘The Avengers’ Not Official, Chalked Up To Nerdy Researcher

It turns out the Albuquerque Journal has either a very nerdy, or very detailed oriented researcher.

News broke just as Santa was prepared to start sliding down chimneys around the world that part of the upcoming mega-comic movie “The Avengers” would revolve around the battle between the Kree and Skrull. For those of you not up on your Marvel lore, in the comics, the Kree are an essentially humanoid race who fought over interstellar technology with the murderous, shape-shifting Skrulls, particularly when the Skrulls created the all-powerful MacGuffin known as the Cosmic Cube. Both used Earth as a battleground, with the Kree capturing and experimenting with human-Kree hybrids, and the Skrulls shapeshifting and assimilating into the highest levels of power in global governments. Got all of that? Anyway, it turns out that news of that conflict might be a bit premature or simply wrong.

ComingSoon report that the plot details in the news report from the Albuquerque Journal did not come from any official Marvel or Disney channels, so geeks need to cool their jets at least for now. That said, Marvel hasn’t been shy about dropping Easter eggs from that world as Comic Con footage featuring the Cosmic Cube (though it is being referred to as the “Tesseract”) and Comic Con crowds catching a quick glimpse of a prop that looked suspiciously like popular Marvel plot device the Infinity Gauntlet, a glove that contains the Infinity Gems—each one of which is capable of dramatically reshaping the chemistry of the universe.

So was the Albuquerque Journal researcher on the right path or was it just a nerdy supposition based on hidden treats for fans in early glimpses and footage of upcoming Marvel films? Guess we’ll have to wait and see.
