Lee Byung-hun aka Storm Shadow To Return For ‘G.I. Joe 2’; Shooting Starts In June For 2012 Release

Stephen Sommers be damned, “G.I. Joe 2” is going get made with him or without him. The director, who was the center of all kinds of drama the first time around, was recently revealed not to be returning to the Paramount toy franchise, but it certainly looks as if casting is getting underway.

THR reports that Lee Byung-hun, better known as the sword wielding villain Storm Shadow, will be back for a second go at the Hasbro marketing tool. No word yet on if any of the other cast members — notably Channing Tatum, Marlon Wayans, Rachel Nichols, Joseph Gordon-Levitt — will be returning or even who will actually be directing this thing, but those details should be coming soon.

Paramount is suddenly moving very fast on this with shooting set to begin in June, with a summer 2012 release date on the calendar. “Zombieland” screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick penned the screenplay which is our only hope the film will at least be watchable unlike its predecessor.
