Method Man To Appear In David Gordon Green’s ‘The Sitter’

The next comedy from David Gordon Green, the bonkers-looking fantasy spoof “Your Highness,” isn’t out until April, but the prolific, chameleonic director has already wrapped his next picture, the Jonah Hill-toplining comedy “The Sitter.” Following a college dropout who has to take his three babysitting charges across town to buy drugs for his girlfriend, it’s a script we really enjoyed when we read it, and features a very promising cast, including Ari Graynor as the girl, “Where The Wild Things Are” star Max Records as one of the kids, and Sam Rockwell and “Curb Your Enthusiasm“‘s J.B. Smoove as Hill’s drug dealer nemeses.

The picture wrapped before Christmas, but sources close to the production have confirmed with the Playlist one more name that will crop up in the film: rapper and occasional actor Method Man. The Wu-Tang Clan member got his start on the big screen with roles in “187” and “Cop Land” and eventually landed leading parts in films like “How High” and “Soul Plane.” Despite the awfulness of those last two films, he’s proven to be leagues above the likes of 50 Cent and DMX, capable of a greater range as evidenced by strong turns in “The Wackness” and HBO‘s”The Wire.”

It’s unclear exactly who Method Man’ll be playing in Green’s film (IMDB says its Jacolby but there’s no character of that name in the draft of the script we read) so we’ll have to wait and see, but it’s yet another reason to look forward to the adventurous comedy.

“The Sitter” joins a spring/summer slate that is already filling up with R-rated comedies with Green’s “Your Highness” arriving on April 8, 2011 and “The Hangover 2” on May 26, 2011. “The Sitter” will hit theaters as counter-programming to “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Pt. 2” on July 15th, 2011.
