New Look: Lone Scherfig’s ‘One Day’ & Cary Fukunaga’s ‘Jane Eyre’

New photos have been unveiled from two of Focus Features 2011 release slate– Lone Scherfig‘s rom-com “One Day” starring Jim Sturgess and Anne Hathaway as well as Cary Fukunaga‘s “Jane Eyre” starring Mia Wasikowska and Michael Fassbender.

Based on the book by David Nicholls, who co-wrote the script, “One Day” tells the story of a couple — Dexter, a spoiled rich TV host and Emma, a politically minded, insecure, working class Yorkshire girl — who meet on the same day, July 15th, for the twenty years after they share a one-night stand together at university. Rafe Spall co-stars in the pic as the partner of Emma, Romola Garai as Dexter’s partner and Patricia Clarkson possibly as the mother of Dexter.

The film is, of course, Scherfig’s highly anticipated follow up to the successful Carey Mulligan breakout film, “An Education” and its scheduled to hit theaters in the third quarter of 2011. The full synopsis of Nicholl’s “One Day” reads as follows:

One Day charts an extraordinary relationship. Emma (Hathaway) and Dexter (Sturgess) meet on the night of their college graduation – July 15th, 1988. She is a working-class girl of principle and ambition who dreams of making the world a better place. He is a wealthy charmer who dreams that the world will be his playground.

For the next two decades, every July 15th reveals to us how “Em” and “Dex” are faring, as their friendship ebbs and flows with the passing of the years. Through laughter and romance, heartbreak and exhilaration, they experience the grandeur of life. Somewhere along their journey, these two people realize that what they are searching and hoping for has been there for them all along.

Sin Nombre” helmer Fukunaga is reportedly aiming to play up the gothic qualities of the classic Charlotte Brontë novel “Jane Eyre,” which centers on a young governess who falls in love with her employer, but discovers he harbors a dark secret. There’s a stellar cast involved in this in addition to the leading duo of Wasikowska and Fassbender, including Jamie Bell, Judi Dench, Sally Hawkins, Imogen Poots, Holliday Grainger and Tamsin Merchant. It’ll also excitingly reunite Fukunaga with his cinematographer Adriano Goldman, and he will be working from a script by Moira Buffini (“Tamara Drewe“). Here’s a full synopsis:

In the story, Jane Eyre flees Thornfield House, the vast and isolated estate where she works as a governess for Adele, a child under the custody of Thornfield’s brooding master, Edward Rochester. As Jane looks back upon the tumultuous events that led to her escape, from her childhood as an orphan to her education at the cruel charity school to which she was consigned, she realizes that she must return to Thornfield – to secure her own future, and to come to terms with the terrible secret Rochester had hoped to hide from her forever…

“Jane Eyre” will see a theatrical release on March 11th. [IMDB/IMDB]
