New Photos: Kevin Macdonald’s ‘The Eagle’ Starring Channing Tatum & Jamie Bell

Plus Two Television Spots From The Film

With its release finally around the corner after being pushed back from a previously scheduled September bow, a batch of new photos and television spots have been unveiled for Kevin Macdonald‘s Roman epic “The Eagle” including new looks at Channing Tatum, Jamie Bell and Tahar Rahim as well as a first look at Mark Strong.

The story, of course, centers on young centurion Marcus Aquila (Tatum) who goes about investigating the legendary disappearance of the ninth Roman legion to restore the reputation of his father, who was the legion’s commander. Bell co-stars as a British slave who joins Aquilla on his journey, Rahim plays the leader of a band of Gallic warriors, Strong is an ex-soldier who holds vital information for Aquilla and Donald Sutherland will portray Aquilla’s retired uncle.

After completing photography in 2009, Macdonald’s film was being lined up for a fall release last year before being pushed back to February. Hopefully the move was a result of Focus‘ burgeoning schedule last year (“Somewhere,” “The American,” “It’s Kind of a Funny Story“) rather than anything to do the film’s quality, which we hold high hopes for.

Oh, and a word of warning: don’t be surprised when you notice that the Romans all have American accents. It’s all part of Macdonald’s deliberate political undertone to the story. “It was always my concept for this film that the Romans would be Americans,” the helmer explained. “That was my first idea about the movie and it still holds up whether or not we had any money from America, that would have been my approach.”

“The Eagle” finally hits theaters on February 11th through Focus Features. [Focus/Facebook]
