Here’s what will probably be the final poster for Danny Boyle‘s take on the harrowing Aron Ralston survival story, “127 Hours,” starring James Franco.
While somewhat aesthetically displeasing at first, the poster is presumably — upon closer inspection — an interesting play on the fraying, intense ordeal faced by Ralston and the digitalization of the whole experience, which saw him record messages and diaries entries on his video camera while trapped in a rocky crevice. His story is, of course, that of the adventurer who was forced to amputate himself, climbs 100 feet and hikes over eight miles to rescue after having his arm caught under a falling boulder in the Utah canyons.
The film also stars Amber Tamblyn, Kate Mara, Clemence Poesy and Lizzy Caplan, though it’s very much Franco-dominated for most of its thrilling 95 minute running time. The actor has already been touted as a strong contender for the Best Actor race along side Colin Firth, whose shines in Tom Hooper‘s “The King’s Speech.” Pic also features a score by Boyle’s award winning “Slumdog Millionaire” composer A.R. Rahman, cinematography from two DP’s Anthony Dod Mantle and Enrique Chediak, and was scripted by Simon Beaufoy.
“127 Hours” begins rolling out in limited release this weekend so be sure to check it out when it hits your town.
