Since pretty much every cameo and celeb appearance has been given away for the upcoming “The Muppet Movie,” we’re left with telling you won’t in the film. Paul Rudd was mentioned in a early batch of names that were said to be appearing in the film but like Jane Lynch before him, it appears word on his participation was a bit premature.
Speaking with MTV at the 2010 Gotham Awards, Rudd reveals his role in the film, which was said to be the voice of the new Muppet Walter, was all a rumor. “I wish that I was [in it]. It’s all rumor,” Rudd said. “I wanted to be in it, and I talked to Jason [Segel], but I think there was some things that happened and I don’t know if I’m gonna get to do it.”
Though he leaves the door slightly ajar, it does sound as if the opportunity has passed even though it may have crossed his desk at some point. That said, the cast is already stacked with enough talented and funny folk that we it’s hard to lament the loss of Rudd for too long. Emily Blunt, Ricky Gervais, Alan Arkin, Jack Black, Billy Crystal, Zach Galifianakis and Jean-Claude Van Damme are all set to make cameos in the film already includes Jason Segel, Rashida Jones, Chris Cooper and Amy Adams in a story that will follow the Muppets as they try to save their studio from a greedy oil baron (Cooper) who wants to dig for oil by staging one big final blowout.
The film will be in front of cameras soon (if it isn’t already) and will be one of the biggest presents under the tree when it opens on December 25, 2011.
