Sienna Miller Joins Ensemble Romcom ‘New Year’s Eve’

Sienna Miller has had an interesting, if not entirely satisfying, career so far. Having been dismissed by many as yet another model-turned-actress after early roles in “Alfie” and “Layer Cake,” she proved to be a far more interesting proposition, with an excellent performance in a terrible film, “Factory Girl.” She’s since proved that wasn’t a fluke, with strong work on stage in “As You Like It” and “After Miss Julie,” and two very good performances in Steve Buscemi‘s “Interview” and John Maybury‘s “The Edge Of Love“, stealing the show from Keira Knightley in the latter.

Unfortunately, despite being linked to the likes of “Gravity,” Miller’s most recent role has been in the truly awful “GI Joe: Rise of the Cobra“. However, the star’s just signed on for a high-profile project which should give her some exposure in a new genre, even if it’s a film we’re actively dreading. Miller has joined Jessica Biel, Abigail Breslin, Robert De Niro, Ashton Kutcher, Sarah Jessica Parker, Michelle Pfeiffer, Til Schweiger and Hilary Swank in the decidedly….eclectic cast of Garry Marshall‘s “New Year’s Eve,” the follow-up to the director’s monster hit “Valentine’s Day.”

Although it’ll share some of the same ensemble feel as its predecessor, no characters or plot elements will overlap — even Kutcher and Biel, who appeared in “Valentine’s Day,” will play new characters. Otherwise, plot details are mostly under wraps, although if our New Year’s Eve was anything to go by, at least one character’s storyline will involve them playing “Call of Duty” on their own until 5am, then crying themselves to sleep. The film starts shooting soon, for a December 9th, 2011 release. [Variety]
