Soundtrack For ‘Gnomeo & Juliet’ Is Basically An Elton John Greatest Hits Collection

One of the real trials for parents forced to drag their tiny progeny to the multiplex to see a film is sitting through a kid’s pic with irritating songs sung by irritating characters. And while we have yet to weigh in on Disney’s animated garden gnome film “Gnomeo & Juliet,” at least parents won’t have to endure a bunch of aggravating cutesy songs.

The soundtrack for the forthcoming film will be mostly a pure Elton John affair featuring a number of his hits including “Saturday Night’s Alright (For Fighting),” “Tiny Dancer,” “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart” and “Your Song.” Oh sure, there are a couple of new songs — “Love Builds A Garden” and “Hello Hello” (which at one point was supposed to be a duet with Lady Gaga but that doesn’t seem to have materialized) — but Disney is playing it safe by relying on the hits. Nelly Furtado also sneaks on here to sing “Crocodile Rock.” The set is rounded out by some obligatory score pieces by James Newton Howard.

The soundtrack will hit stores on February 8, 2011 a little before the film lands in theaters on February 17, 2011. Full tracklist below. [DisneyDreaming]
