Tony Gilroy Went To See ‘127 Hours,’ Doesn’t Mean He Wants James Franco As Next Bourne

So with the Internet now spinning a really tenuous story about Tony Gilroy supposedly eyeing James Franco for the lead role in “The Bourne Legacy,” we just want to temper things a moment and point out the one line in the NY Post report that everyone seems to be ignoring: “But a source close to Gilroy said, ‘He was just there to see the movie.’”

So, relax Internet, Tony Gilroy, who lives in Manhattan, went to the New York City premiere of the one of the hottest films of the fall. That’s a real shocker. You know you who else was there? Elizabeth Banks, Agyness Deyn, Swizz Beats and Padma Lakshmi. So using Internet logic, it must mean that Tony Gilroy is going to compete on the next season of “Top Chef,” Elizabeth Banks is enlisting Swizz Beats to produce her debut hip-hop album under her stage name E. $Banx$ and Agyness Deyn is going to play Henry Chinaski in James Franco‘s adaptation of “Ham On Rye.” See how easy it is? All we have to do is add a couple of question marks and some vague language and we could be blowing up the Internet with some mad rumors.

So boo-urns to Roger Friedman who got the ball rolling on this non-story where he breathlessly broke the news that for Gilroy “….seeing Franco in “127 Hours” seemed to be his goal, and he was pretty impressed.” You know who else had that goal of seeing Franco in “127 Hours”? Everyone who went to see the movie.
