Being a first time feature filmmaker ain’t easy, and you need to do everything possible to get attention for your film. Lucky then for Zal Batmanglij who didn’t have to look very far to get some major indie rock talent to score his debut feature film.
Vampire Weekend‘s Rostam Batmanglij has scored his brother Zal’s film, “Sound Of My Voice.” The film stars the relatively unknown Brit Marling, Christopher Denham, Nicole Vicius and Avery Pohl and boasts an intriguing premise, chronicling a couple’s infiltration into a California cult and what happens when they meet the group’s leader. Certainly sounds interesting, and we’re curious what kind of tenor Rostam will bring to the pic and how it will differ from the buoyant, eclectic pop from his daytime gig in Vampire Weekend. No word yet if it will get any kind of a standalone release.
“Sound Of My Voice” will make its debut at the Sundance Film Festival and you can catch it at a handful of screenings. The festival runs from January 20-30. [Pitchfork]
