“Love And Other Drugs” is the kind of solid triple of a movie that leaves you frustrated at just how close it came to being a home run. Starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway, the film tells the story of a budding romance between a young couple who face a tremendous hurdle when the female half is diagnosed with early onset Parkinson’s Disease. Unfortunately, every time the film seems to be headed into serious territory the story reverts to something wacky from Jonah Hill stand-in Josh Gad or resorts to another cheap laugh, instead of really going for the emotional jugular. And judging by the latest red band trailer for the film, Fox wants to make sure audiences know the film does have comedy in it, no matter how shoehorned in it feels.
In fact, we’re kind of baffled why Fox bothered cutting a red-band trailer for the flick which makes it seem more like “Superbad” and its ilk that it actually is. The film gets an R more for its frank (and refreshingly real) sex scenes than for the handful of f-bombs in the movie. But the way this trailer plays out you would think its your standard, sort of dirty R-rated comedy which it isn’t. At all. But yes, it does have dick jokes aplenty no matter how distracting they are from the real thrust of the story (all puns fully intended).
