Watch: New Trailer For ‘The Lincoln Lawyer’ Reveals That (Gasp) Creepy Defendant Is Probably Lying

A new trailer for “The Lincoln Lawyer” has arrived and as much as we want this to be some decent escapist fare and as much as we like the potboilers by Michael Connelly, our expectations for this one are quickly diminishing.

The film stars Matthew McConaughey in the role of ace defense attorney Mickey Haller who makes his coin defending some pretty lowlife scum. Enter Ryan Phillippe playing said scum, a man accused of rape and assault but who is claiming he didn’t do it, but as the trailer clearly spells out from one hysterical moment to the next, he’s pretty much lying. Ordinarily, this is the point where we’d save this one for our eventual rental queue, but the cast here is too good ignore with Marisa Tomei, William H. Macy, Michael Pena and Bryan Cranston all filling in supporting roles. So, we’re still mildly curious but we’re honestly not expecting all that much.

The Brad Furman-directed film will open on March 18, 2011. Check out the full synopsis and trailer after the jump (or in HD at Apple).

Mickey Haller (Matthew McConaughey) is a Los Angeles criminal defense attorney who operates out of the back of his Lincoln sedan. Haller has spent most of his career defending garden-variety criminals, until he lands the case of his career: defending Louis Roulet (Ryan Phillippe), a Beverly Hills playboy accused of rape and attempted murder. But the seemingly straightforward case suddenly develops into a deadly game of survival for Haller.
