Watch: Trailer For ‘Cowboys & Aliens’ Is Rugged & Badass

It’s good week for tentpole trailers. With “Green Lantern” and “Your Highness” delivering the goods yesterday (OK, maybe just the latter), we now have our first look at Jon Favreau‘s forthcoming “Cowboys & Aliens.” And it’s the best tentpole trailer to hit in a while (at least this week anyway). Unlike the goofy FX of “Green Lantern,” what we see here really makes the sci-fi and period elements feel organic. In fact the whole premise, which sounded kind of dorky on paper, comes off as pretty damn cool here. The cast looks like they’re at the top of their game, particularly Harrison Ford, who has been unfairly targeted lately for “Morning Glory” (not his fault, that movie was terrible). He looks like he’s in his dialogue-chewing, scene-stealing glory here. All in all, this looks like it might just be a breath of fresh air in the currently stale looking comic book season for next year.

The film follows a group of Apache Indians and Western settlers in Arizona who must lay their differences aside when an alien spaceship crash lands in their city. Directed by Jon Favreau, the film stars Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, Sam Rockwell, Paul Dano, Olivia Wilde, Noah Ringer, Walton Goggins, Keith Carradine, Ana de la Reguera and more. Oh yeah, and some aliens.

So is “Wild Wild West” terrible or “Iron Man” awesome? See for yourself after the jump and check out more stills from the film as well. The films lassos your multiplex on July 29, 2011.
