Steven Soderbergh’s Spalding Gray Doc, ‘Morning Glory,’ ‘Drive Angry 3D’ & More Get New Dates
After Fox laid out a bloody red carpet earlier in the month to land “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter” the studio has quickly pegged a release date for the film, slotting it for June 22, 2012.
Based on the novel by Seth Grahame-Smith, the story spins the familiar history of Abraham Lincoln, but casts him as a ruthless vampire killer. Timur Bekmambetov is directing the film and Tim Burton is producing — and now you can see why Fox was so eager to land the project under their roof.
Since the summer, Bekmambetov has been eyeing a winter shoot and with that release date, it seems like that production schedule still stands. As for what we can expect stylistically, Bekmambetov said, “If you remember ‘Nightwatch’, it is maybe in the vein of that kind of movie.” He also hopes to explore the world Grahame-Smith has created in potential sequels.
“Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter” remains alone on the June 22, 2012 weekend for now but Pixar‘s “Brave” will open a week before on June 15th and Paramount‘s “Star Trek” sequel hits a week after on June 29th.
And we’ll use this opportunity to update you on a few release date announcements and changes that have down over the past few days. Steven Soderbergh‘s Spalding Gray documentary, “And Everything Is Going Fine” will hit in a limited release on December 10th via IFC. If it doesn’t make it to your town, not to worry, as the film will be compiled in a box set of Gray documentaries that will presumably include “Swimming To Cambodia” (directed by Jonathan Demme) and “Monster In A Box” (directed by Nick Broomfield) and will see a release via The Criterion Collection.
Paramount has moved “Morning Glory,” starring Rachel McAdams, Harrison Ford and Diane Keaton, by a couple of days to November 10th. The bump has presumably been made to give the film a head start against the Denzel Washington runaway train thriller “Unstoppable” and the alien invasion pic “Skyline” also opening that weekend. The film which has been marketed as “The Devil Wears Prada” in the newsroom (it is by that film’s screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna) is apparently more of a James L. Brooks type dramedy? Huh.
Other dates to note: The stupid looking Nicolas Cage car movie “Drive Angry 3D” has been moved two weeks to Feburary 25, 2011; the Kevin SpaceyJack Abramoff flick “Casino Jack” will land on December 17th and “21 Jump Street” has officially been slotted for March 16, 2012.
