Well here’s a sort of clever idea that will probably still end up being terrible. A bevy of horror directors, including Joe Dante (“Germlins“), Paco Plaza (“[REC]“) Vincenzo Natali (“Splice“), Xavier Gens (“Hitman”), Ryuhei Kitamura (“The Midnight Meat Train“), Brit director Christopher Smith (“Creep“), French duo Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo (“A L’Interieur“) and German music video director Joern Heitmann have all signed on for “Paris, I’ll Kill You.”
As you might guess, the premise is a riff on the arthouse anthology “Paris, je t’aime” that will be a much uglier, nastier look at Paris as seen through the eyes of these horror directors. Anthologies in general are pretty hit and miss, but honestly, most of these directors haven’t made a feature worth caring about so we can’t muster up too much excitement for this though we’re sure for genre fans, this news is as a big as anything about “The Dark Knight Rises.”
The project will be shopped next week at American Film Market where rights and financing hope to be sold and raised. No word yet on when the film is looking to go in front of cameras. Dante and Gens are finished up their respective films “The Hole” and “The Divide.” The former has already come out in a couple of markets overseas but is still without a U.S. release date, while the latter will hit next year. Natali saw “Splice” arrive in theaters earlier this year to decent notices but not much box office attention. Natali has most recently been linked to the big screen adaptation of William Gibson‘s “Neuromancer.” As for the other guys, well, we’ve barely heard of them but if they impress us with ‘Kill You,’ we’ll be sure to pay them more mind.
