Last spring, a new film from “Machinist” director Brad Anderson was announced. Titled, “Jack,” the project had John Cusack set to star in the film that told the story of a doctor who falls in love with the titular character who they have been assigned to rehabilitate after an accident. When memories begin to surface of his murderous past though, the man must decide whether to make a new start with his new love or embrace the killer within.
Shooting was slated to begin in August, but was delayed for unspecified reasons (perhaps because Cusack ended up bailing?). Now it looks like the project is coming back to life with some new names attached. Liev Schreiber has been offered the lead role while Samuel L. Jackson is in negotiations for the part of Pete Chandler.
The film has a script by David Venable who’s written a couple of TV movies and the Christopher Lambert film “Fortress.” We presume with casting underway the production is set to gear up soon. Anderson has a cult following of sorts thanks to the “Machinist” but his last two films were either ignored (“Transsiberian“) or were met with bad reviews (“The Vanishing On 7th Street” which recently premiered at TIFF). Here’s hoping this film finds him back on track.
