We Preferred “Mission Impossible: The Rise Of Xenu”
Ever since it was announced that the currently filming fourth entry in the “Mission Impossible” franchise wouldn’t necessarily be called “Mission: Impossible 4,” we’ve spent literally seconds wondering what the possible title could be. Ain’t It Cool reported a while back that one contender was Mission: Impossible: Project Aries,” but at a press conference in Dubai where the film is shooting, star Tom Cruise revealed that another of the possibilities floated had been picked — “Mission: Impossible: Ghost Protocol.”
We’re assuming that’s how it’ll be written, anyway — as it’s only been spoken out loud at this point, it’s unclear where the punctuation will be placed. Two colons seems like overkill, but all the films before have had one in between the words “Mission” and “Impossible.” And if we don’t care about the grammar of blockbuster tentpole titles, who will? Either way, it makes it sound like an X-Box game.
The movie hits theaters on December 16th, 2011, and sees Cruise return to the character of Ethan Hunt, with Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Jeremy Renner, Paula Patton and Josh Holloway as his colleagues, at least one of whom, let’s face it, is likely to be a turncoat, and Lea Seydoux, Anil Kapoor and Michael Nyqvist will play the villains. J.J. Abrams is producing, having helmed the third installment, and, in really the only good news we have here, Pixar graduate Brad Bird (“The Incredibles“) is directing. [Gulf News via Vulture]
