Update:Casey Affleck has also joined the cast playing Stiller’s friend and underling who is uncomfortable with the heist plans and wants to turn him in. Judd Hirsch of “Taxi” fame is also in the ensemble. This cast is now officially bonkers.
Ok, listen, this writer has been playing cautiously optimistic with this one so far, but now with news of Matthew Broderick joining the cast of Brett Ratner‘s “Tower Heist” we’re throwing our hands up in the air because we don’t know what to make of this thing anymore. Nothing against Broderick. We’re sure he’s a swell dude and all, but his comedic track record on the big screen of late has not been great (“Deck The Halls,” “The Stepford Wives“) and his indie flicks haven’t done much either. He joins an eclectic cast that currently includes Ben Stiller, Eddie Murphy, Alan Alda, Téa Leoni, Gabourey Sidibe and Michael Pena.
The film will follow an overworked manager of a luxury building (Stiller) who, along with other staff, loses their pensions to a Bernie Madoff-like Wall Street crook (Alda). It so happens that the fraudster is being held under house arrest in the luxury penthouse apartment upstairs, and the manager and four cohorts figure a heist will make them whole. Sidibe and Pena will be joining Stiller in the master plan to rip off the Madoff character. Broderick will play Chase Fitzhugh, a Wall Street-type who also lost his money to the fraudster. Still no word yet on Murphy or Leoni’s roles.
Things are moving full steam ahead with the film set to go in front of cameras next month in New York City.
