Features Breathy Acting, Bad Fake Driving & Lots Of Lightcycles
Featuring what is promising to be a badass score by Daft Punk and some jaw-dropping visuals, early sneaks at “Tron: Legacy” have stoked fan — and our — anticipation for the project to a fever pitch, but two new clips have hit the web from the film and if anything, they’ve forced us to take a slight step back and temper our feelings for just a moment.
The first clip to arrive showcases Quorra (Olivia Wilde) and Sam Flynn (Garrett Hedlund) driving around in The Batmobile a pretty sweet looking rover, but there is something disconcerting about the sequence. The driving scenes look like something out of a 1940s movie with a projected backdrop zipping by while the vehicle remains stationary (this looks particularly brutal when the camera goes in front of the vehicle for what is presumably a 3D effect of the car coming at you), but we probably wouldn’t have noticed if weren’t for Wilde jerking the steering wheel all over the place in a bad imitation of what it’s like to actually drive. That said, the landscape looks stunning and it’s a minor moment in the film so we won’t complain too much.
The second clip shows the first meeting between Sam and Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges). Stage whispers abound. We really hope all the dialogue in the film isn’t delivered with such portentous meaning. Finally, a new brief TV spot for the film shows off a dazzling array of lightcycles which should please the geek set.
