Years out from the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, and with dual Hollywood labor strikes resolved, it seems like the 2024 – 2025 Oscar season calendar should hold steady this time. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has already announced that the 97th Oscars will air live on ABC on Sunday, March 2, and have even rolled out some rule changes.
Again, the several awards bodies in the mix have all managed to avoid other tentpole events like the Super Bowl (February 9, 2025), but the bigger feat has been the Academy Awards, for the first time in years, not being set on the same weekend as SXSW. Furthermore, the Oscar nominations will not be announced during the Sundance Film Festival, another persistent headache on the cal in recent years.
Still, the new season already brings some scheduling crossovers, like the Directors Guild Awards and Producers Guild Awards being held on the same day (February 8). But it does all lead to a slightly shorter awards season this time around.
