French prosecutors have requested director Benoît Jacquot be charged with the rape and sexual assault of several actresses, according to a Le Monde report.

Jacquot, 77, was held for questioning on Monday after filmmaker/actress Judith Godrèche filed a complaintalleging Jacquot raped her during a relationship that began when she was 14. The relationship lasted several years, Godrèche, now 52, said. Godrèche first went public with her allegations in an investigation Le Monde published in February 2024.

Le Besco, now 41, followed Godrèche’s complaint with one of her own, alleging Jacquot raped her during a relationship also began when she was a minor. Julia Roy, now 34, has also accused Jacquot of sexual assault; Jacquot has denied all accusations.

Prosecutors are currently seeking to charge Jacquot with crimes against Le Besco and Roy, but not Godrèche.

In addition to her complaint against Jacquot for “predation” and “violent rape of a minor under 15 years old committed by a person in authority,” Godrèche has filed another complaint against her “La fille de 15 ans” director Jacques Doillon. Godrèche alleges Doillon raped her twice when she was 15 (via Variety).

Le Besco has further alleged Doillon sexually assaulted her on a film set when she was 15. Doillon has also been accused of forcefully kissing Anna Mouglalis, another actress; Mouglalis says the forceful kiss happened in 2011. Doillon has denied all allegations. Doillon was held for questioning for more than 24 hours before being released “for medical reasons.”

Paris prosecutors are specifically looking to charge Jacquot with “rape, sexual assault, and violence” against Roy, Le Monde reported; the alleged crimes are estimated to have occurred between 2013 and 2018. Prosecutors are additionally seeking to charge Jacquot with “rape of a minor by a person with authority” and “rape by a partner” against Le Besco; those alleged crimes are estimated to have happened between 1998 and 2000 and then again in 2007.

Le Besco is the younger sister of her “Mon Roi” filmmaker Maïwenn, who recently directed Johnny Depp’s comeback role in “Jeanne du Barry.” Maïwenn became outspoken against #MeToo after her ex-husband, “Léon, the Professional” director Luc Besson, was accused of rape. Maïwenn was married to Besson in 1992; she was 16 years old when they wed after Besson had known her for four years. Last year, Besson was cleared of rape charges stemming from 2018 accusations by actress Sand Van Roy.

Godrèche debuted the #MeToo short film “Sadly Universal” at Cannes 2024 during the Un Certain Regard opening ceremony.
