Julia Garner is haunted by the path not taken in horror film “Apartment 7A.”
The “Ozark” and “Inventing Anna” alum leads the Paramount+ feature which is a prequel to “Rosemary’s Baby.” While Garner is definitely not playing a younger Rosemary, her character does occupy the same spooky apartment building that the center of evil in the Roman Polanski-helmed original film.
“Apartment 7A” is set in 1965 New York City, where the infamous Bramford building has a dark presence. Garner stars as Terry Gionoffrio, an ambitious young dancer whose dreams of fame and fortune are dashed after suffering a devastating injury.
Per the official synopsis, an older, wealthy couple (Dianne Wiest and Kevin McNally) welcomes her into their home in the luxury apartment building the Bramford. When fellow resident and influential Broadway producer (Jim Sturgess) offers her another chance at fame, it seems that all her dreams are finally coming true. However, after an evening she can’t fully remember, disturbing circumstances soon have her second-guessing the sacrifices she’s willing to make for her career as she realizes that something evil is living not only in Apartment 7A, but in the Bramford itself.
Marli Siu, Andrew Buchan, Rosy McEwen, and Kobna Holdbrook-Smith also star.
Natalie Erika James directs from a script she co-wrote with Christian White and Skylar James. “Apartment 7A” is executive produced by Vicki Dee Rock and Alexa Ginsburg, with John Krasinski, Michael Bay, Andrew Form, Allyson Seeger, and Brad Fuller producing.
“Apartment 7A” will have its world premiere at Fantastic Fest, the world’s largest genre and horror festival based in Austin, Texas. Other premieres at the festival include “Terrifier 3,” “The Rule of Jenny Pen,” and “Never Let Go.”
The film will also be featured in Paramount+ Peak Screaming, a curated collection of fan-favorite horror movies and Halloween episodes from beloved series.
“Apartment 7A” isn’t the first twist on “Rosemary’s Baby”: The film landed a two-part, four-hour limited series at NBC in 2014 with Zoe Saldana starring. The original film also received a behind-the-scenes documentary with director Polanski and lead actress Mia Farrow revisiting the feature.
