Academy Award winner Ariana DeBose is taking over the kitchen in horror-thriller film “House of Spoils.”

DeBose stars as a chef who is tormented by an otherworldly force while trying to open a restaurant. “Euphoria” alum Barbie Ferreira stars as Lucia, another chef on staff, and “Succession” actor Arian Moayed plays Andreas, DeBose’s onscreen business partner.

The official synopsis reads: “An ambitious chef (DeBose) as she opens a restaurant on a remote estate where she battles kitchen chaos, crushing self doubts…and a haunting presence who threatens to sabotage her at every turn.”

Amara Karan, Mikkel Bratt Silset, and Marton Csokas co-star.

The film is from Amazon MGM and Blumhouse Television and will have its world premiere at Fantastic Fest 2024.

“House of Spoils” is written and directed by “Blow the Man Down” filmmakers Bridget Savage Cole and Danielle Krudy. The duo told Elle that the film was inspired by the “torment and growth of becoming a leader and trying to find your voice, which is essentially what we think this movie is about.”

“We found that we really connected with the chef’s journey as leaders and finding their voice,” Krudy said.

DeBose told the outlet that she even trained at elite restaurants in New York City to prepare for the film.

“When I read the script, I was fascinated by the idea of a character with no name. Chef, defined by her work — how many women, everybody really, can relate to that idea at one point in their lives?” DeBose said. “I trained in New York City for about a week with chef Ayesha Nurdjaja of Shukette (which is an amazing spot, by the way). It was terrifying, but I had a blast! She gave me a good jumpstart! Dang, can she run a kitchen!”

And according to co-director Savage Cole, DeBose had no problem fully immersing herself in the role.

“This was a challenging shoot,” Savage Cole said. “It was like she’s in every scene. It’s dirty, it’s nasty. Some of these sets, we literally had her crawling in dirt over and over again one night and there was a lot we asked of her.”

“House of Spoils” is produced by Greg Gilreath, Adam Hendricks, Drew Houpt, Alex Scharfman, Lucas Joaquin, and Jason Blum. Savage Cole, Krudy, Chris McCumber, Jeremy Gold, and Chris Dickie executive produce.

“House of Spoils” premieres October 3 on Prime Video. Check out the trailer below.
