Oscar winner Jordan Peele (“Get Out”) joins two-time Oscar nominee Ryan Coogler on the latest episode of Proximity Media’s “In Proximity” podcast, and IndieWire shares an exclusive excerpt in the video above.
The podcast, which launched its second season on September 8 with a conversation between “Creed” franchise visionary Coogler and “American Fiction” Oscar winner Cord Jefferson, highlights in-depth conversations on careers and creativity in both film and TV between creators. And with special guests, as this excerpt from the podcast’s “Get Reel” segment features Daniel Kaluuya — who has starred for both Peele and Coogler, with “Nope” and “Get Out” for Peele to the first “Black Panther” movie from Coogler — dialing in to ask each of the filmmakers what discipline guides their storytelling vision. The answer, for Peele, is improv — apropos given his background as a comedian on the sketch series “Key & Peele.”
Per Proximity Media, the “Get Reel” segment finds speakers answering randomly drawn surprise questions from film canisters.
In terms of upcoming projects, Coogler reunites with his “Creed” and “Fruitvale” station star Michael B. Jordan for the horror film “Sinners.” In the vampire tale, Jordan plays twin brothers who, in the Jim Crow-era South, return to their hometown of New Orleans to find a great evil awaiting them.
Meanwhile, Peele’s fourth feature, as veiled in mystery as the previous three, is set for a release in October 2026. It was originally dated for 2024 but the strikes led Universal to shift it vastly ahead on the schedule. Literally nothing else is known about the project.
Upcoming “In Proximity” guests include Proximity founder and writer/producer Sev Ohanian with “They Cloned Tyrone” filmmaking duo Juel Taylor and Tony Rettenmaier; Proximity head of film development/production Rebecca Cho and New York Times best-selling author/illustrator and screenwriter Jonny Sun; Cho and Courtenay Valenti, studio veteran and head of theatrical and streaming film at Amazon MGM Studios; plus documentarians Pete Nicks and Jon Else; and more. Past guests have included Michael B. Jordan, Steph Curry, Tessa Thompson, Ta-Nehisi Coates, Charles D. King, Tara Duncan, Roman Mars, Aneesh Chaganty, Natalie Qasabian, and more.
