The annual TCM Classic Film Festival is expanding to the East Coast, even if just for a day.

Turner Classic Movies is launching a fan event in partnership with The 92nd Street Y in New York ahead of the 2025 Los Angeles-based festival. IndieWire can confirm that TCM “will expand its festival footprint,” per an official press statement, with the “TCM Classic Film Festival: New York Pop-Up  x  92NY” taking place in collaboration with The 92nd Street Y, New York.

The one-day event will include three different programs on Saturday, January 25 in New York, leading up to the TCM Classic Film Festival kickoff in April.

The actual 2025 TCM Classic Film Festival will take place in Hollywood, CA, from Thursday, April 24 through Sunday, April 27. The theme  will be “Grand Illusions: Fantastic Worlds on Film,” with features ranging from “enchanted worlds of fantasy and stories beyond belief, from myths and magical creatures to ghostly encounters and travels through time,” as TCM announced. TCM’s award-winning podcast “The Plot Thickens” will also host a special event ahead of the debut of its sixth season.

“Every year, the team at Turner Classic Movies pulls out all the stops to bring movie lovers a festival that highlights the very best in classic cinema and allow us to come together to celebrate the artists we love,” Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group Co-Chairs & CEOs Mike De Luca and Pamela Abdy said. “The 2025 edition will again be a must attend event for filmgoers and we look forward to being with you all on opening night to kick-off another incredible lineup of movies.”

The TCM Classic Film Festival will include an extensive lineup of movies, appearances by legendary stars and filmmakers, panel discussions, special events, and more. The 2024 festival was also rated by attendees as the experience with the “highest in satisfaction” in more than five years. The theme of the 2024 TCM Classic Film Festival was “Most Wanted: Crime and Justice in Film,” and celebrated the network’s 30th anniversary. Screenings of “Pulp Fiction,” “National Velvet,” and “Lady Sings the Blues” were part of the lineup.

The TCM Classic Film Festival has undergone major changes in recent years, with the 2023 festival marking a turning point for the network itself, with that edition taking place for the first time under the aegis of Warner Bros. Discovery and David Zaslav in attendance. Auteurs Steven Spielberg, Paul Thomas Anderson, and Martin Scorsese later joined as TCM advisors.
