“Saturday Night” and “Bottoms” actress Rachel Sennott may be a rising star in Hollywood, but in the Cayman Islands, she’s just another tourist who forgot to check the rules around weed in a foreign territory. While traveling there for a much-needed vacation, Sennott was arrested and detained at the airport following a bag search where security found a CBD joint she didn’t realize she’d packed. As detailed in an interview on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” Sennott’s assistant came to the rescue when her boss stopped responding to calls and texts.
“Shout out to my 23-year-old assistant Claire!” Sennott said, receiving a huge applause from the studio audience. “Literally, shout-out Claire! Shout-out Claire. Claire thinks I’ve been kidnapped because I always reply to my texts. So Claire calls the embassy. She goes, ‘Rachel Sennott’s been kidnapped.’ They go, ‘Who is that?’”
Sennott was only able to text her entertainment lawyers that she was arrested before her phone taken and she was brought to jail. Since they didn’t know which jail she’d been put in, it sent her legal representatives into a frenzy, especially considering they don’t handle criminal law. Thankfully, Claire was able to get them the information they needed to deal with the situation, bringing Sennott to safety and keeping her job status active.
“She calls the hotel, she’s like, ‘Rachel’s missing. I don’t know what’s going on,’” said Sennott of her assistant’s actions. “They go, ‘Does she smoke weed?’ She’s like, ‘Obviously.’ And then they go, ‘She’s probably been detained.’ So then Claire calls my entertainment lawyers, who are meanwhile googling ‘jails.’ Like, ‘Where are jails?’ And then she connects them. She tells them where I am. They call a lawyer, who comes to the Cayman Islands, and we work out the situation.”
Though she wished she was able to show her mug shot to the “Tonight Show” audience, the Cayman Island authorities did not allow her a copy. Instead, Sennott told fans to “just imagine I look incredible.”
“I’m just looking so beautiful. Definitely no tears streaming down my face,” she said. “Definitely no plane sweat.”
