When the 34th annual Gotham Awards kick off at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City tonight, the race to the Oscars will officially be underway. The Gothams traditionally occupy a spot on the awards calendar as the first major film-centric ceremony of the season, giving fans their first opportunity to see the year’s biggest stars on the red carpet, as well as awards watchers’ first chance to gauge the state of the race.
This year’s nominees feature some of the buzziest films of 2024, including Sean Baker’s “Anora,” Luca Guadagnino’s “Challengers,” and RaMell Ross’ “Nickel Boys.” The evening will also feature tributes to Zendaya, Denis Villeneuve, James Mangold, and Timothée Chalamet.
