The Producers Guild of America has unveiled its first round of 2025 PGA Awards nominees.
The category of Outstanding Producer of Documentary Motion Pictures was announced on December 10, 2024, almost two months before the ceremony will take place on February 8, 2025 at the Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles, California.
Comprised of more than 8,400 producers, the guild nominated six documentaries for the Outstanding Producer of Documentary Motion Pictures category. The selected films are in the process of being vetted for individual producer eligibility.
The previous ceremony awarded Lauren Domino, Matthew Heineman, and Joedan Okun with the Outstanding Producer of Documentary Motion Picture for “American Symphony.” In 2023, “Navalny” producers Odessa Rae, Diane Becker, Melanie Miller and Shane Boris were honored with the PGA Award and went on to win the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature.
The 36th annual PGA Awards are a cornerstone awards show for Hollywood, specifically celebrating the work and accomplishments of producers across TV and film. The projects eligible for 2025 recognition have had to have aired between January 1, 2024 and December 31, 2024.
The Sports, Children’s, and Short Form category nominations will be announced on Friday, December 13, with the Theatrical Motion Pictures; Animated Motion Pictures; Television Series/Specials; Streamed or Televised Motion Pictures unveiled Friday, January 10, 2025. Additional honorees will be announced at a later time.
The 2024 ceremony bestowed special honors on Martin Scorsese with the David O. Selznick Achievement Award in Theatrical Motion Pictures; Gail Berman got the Norman Lear Achievement Award in Television and Charles D. King was honored with the Milestone Award.
The 2024 PGAs proved an excellent indicator for the Oscars, with “American Fiction,” “Anatomy of a Fall,” “Barbie,” “The Holdovers,” “Killers of the Flower Moon,” “Maestro,” “Oppenheimer,” “Past Lives,” “Poor Things,” and “The Zone of Interest” among contenders. The Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures award, which was formally known as the Darryl F. Zanuck Award, has historically been considered a strong indicator for the Best Picture Oscar, with 15 of the previous 20 winners going on to win the biggest honor at the Academy Awards.
The 2025 PGA Award event chairs are Mike Farah and Joe Farrell.
