Hey, “Captain America” is coming out! We have to confess we’d kind of forgotten about the film: Marvel and Paramount haven’t yet been saturation marketing the flick in the same way that other superhero blockbusters have been (“X-Men First Class,” you were pretty good, but there was really no need for all those posters, now, was there?). Whether it’s a lack of confidence in the movie, or more realistically, that the film still isn’t out for another seven weeks, things seem to be gearing up again.
We’d expect to see a new trailer for the film in the next few weeks (likely tied to “Green Lantern” or “Super 8“), but Brazilian site CineMarcado (via Cinema Blend) have debuted what seem to be a trio of character posters for the project, and, uh, yeah, they look a little…ropey. Showcasing Chris Evans as the titular shield-thrower, plus Hugo Weaving as the villainous Red Skull and Hayley Atwell as love interest Peggy Carter, all three seem to be modeling tie-in Halloween costumes rather than actual get-ups from the film, suggesting these one-sheets aren’t necessarily the finished product, or at least that they’re unlikely to make an appearance Stateside in this form.
Still, we did like the trailer quite a bit, and the cast, which also includes Sebastian Stan, Dominic Cooper, Stanley Tucci, Tommy Lee Jones, Toby Jones, Richard Armitage, Derek Luke, Neal McDonough and JJ Feild, is rock-solid, even if we’re still mildly concerned about Joe Johnston in the director’s chair. We’re sure there’ll be plenty more tastes between now and when “Captain America: The First Avenger” opens on July 22nd.
