Tasked with writing and directing “American Reunion,” the pressure of making a sequel that can match and possibly even better what we thought was the franchise closer, “American Pie: The Wedding,” is something we can’t even fathom. So far, they have been lucky — nay, blessed — that Seann William Scott, Jason Biggs, Eugene Levy, Thomas Ian Nicholas, Tara Reid, Chris Klein, Mena Suvari, Jennifer Coolidge and Allyson Hannigan have approved of their work and agreed to set aside time to return for another installment. But all of this is meaningless unless everybody comes back to maintain the careful balance of characters that made the original series so vital to the American psyche.
