A couple bits of soundtrack news this afternoon.
Alexandre Desplat, who is currently riding high off his excellent score for “The Tree Of Life,” has another disc of fresh compositions on the way, this time for Chris Weitz‘s “A Better Life.” Returning to his earlier roots of smaller-scale films like “About A Boy,” the film stars Demian Birchir (Fidel Castro in “Che”) and follows the woes of an undocumented illegal worker as he tries to make a living for his family as a gardener. The film hits theaters on June 24th, with the soundtrack arriving on digital outlets a few days earlier on June 21st. You can check out the full tracklisting below as well as listen to clips of the songs.
Meanwhile, Film Music Reporter reveals that David Gordon Green‘s second comedy of 2011, “The Sitter,” now has David Wingo and Jeff McIlwain composing the score for the film. The former has a long history with Green, having penned music for “George Washington,” “All The Real Girls” and pairing with McIllwain on “Snow Angels.” Obviously, this film is quite a different vibe than those past efforts so will be interesting to what they bring to a comedy about a college student who ends up on a wild night after agreeing to babysit the three kids next door. The film stars Jonah Hill, Max Records, Ari Graynor, J.B. Smoove, Method Man and Sam Rockwell and it will hit theaters on December 9th.
