Jeff Bridges To Basically Reprise Rooster Cogburn For ‘R.I.P.D.’?

With Zach Galifianakis unable to commit to the uncertain schedule of Ryan Reynolds for “R.I.P.D.,” a replacement seems to have been found and it’s a pretty big switch up.

Deadline reports that Jeff Bridges is in negotiations to join the film, and while the role isn’t specified, it’s likely for the other male lead. “R.I.P.D.” is an adaptation of the Dark Horse comic book about a pair of deceased detectives, one a recently murdered cop, the other a gunslinger from the Old West, and it has Robert Schwentke (”Red”) attached to direct. Of course, Bridges is no stranger to playing a grizzled gunslinger, earning himself some more acclaim for his turn as Rooster Cogburn in “True Grit.” So is he basically just going to reprise a version of that role here? That would be…interesting.

Whether or not it happens remains to been. Lensing is supposed to begin later this spring/early summer in Boston, but there’s also the pesky question of “Green Lantern 2” and how soon or even if Warner Bros. will want that film going. It’ll likely depend on how big (or not) it opens. As for Bridges, he’s got a new country album coming out this summer and is also attached to star in “The Seventh Son” but that’s not set to shoot until the fall, so presumably he could do both.
