‘G.I. Joe 2’ To Have The Subtitle ‘Cobra Strikes’

First audiences watched “The Rise Of Cobra.” Now they’ll have to take cover, as the subtitle for “G.I. Joe 2” will be the dramatic, tonally appropriate “Cobra Strikes.” At least, that’s according to the Louisiana Entertainment office (via NOLA), who erroneously leaked that the production would begin in New Orleans this August and stretch through November. The offices now claim that there has been no decision made as to shooting locations, but “G.I. Joe 2: Cobra Strikes” seems to be the title. At least for now.

Rumors about the sequel’s shooting suggest that there will be a significantly smaller budget and cast this time around, but by putting Cobra in the title, are they implying that Joseph Gordon-Levitt will return to the role of Cobra Commander? Gordon-Levitt is moving on to big roles in “Looper” and “The Dark Knight Rises,” so it doesn’t seem like a priority to return as a cardboard-deep baddie. But who knows what contractual obligations he may have signed at the time.

“G.I. Joe 2: Cobra Strikes” will be directed by Jon Chu, with Channing Tatum, Ray Park and Lee Byung-Hung returning for the sequel. You can scream “Yo Joe” (please don’t scream, actually) when the film hits on August 10, 2012.
