Craig Gillespie Back As The Frontrunner To Direct ‘Pride And Prejudice And Zombies’

Update: Deadline reports that Craig Gillespie is now locked to direct. Finally.

It’s been a bit of a zany ride to find a director for “Pride And Prejudice And Zombies.” David O. Russell and Mike White both having temporarily filled and subsequently vacated the director’s chair for the gestating adaptation. Back in February, Craig Gillespie—who helmed “Lars And the Real Girl” and the upcoming “Fright Night”—was said to be in talks for the gig but then last month, Seth Grahame-Smith (who wrote the book on which the film is based along with the “Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter” book) and David Katzenberg were also being considered to co-direct the picture.

However, it appears Craig Gillespie is now the favorite again to step behind the camera. Deadline reports that Lionsgate has told all other contenders they’re making the offer to Gillespie with negotiations set to begin soon.

In case you’ve been living under a rock, or in a grave (ha!), the film is based on the best-selling book, which introduces the undead into Jane Austen‘s classic romance; so still lots of corsets and pale skin just with more braaaaiiiiinnnns. Hollywood is pretty much in love with zombies now with about a kajillion various zombie movies in the works so it’s about time Lionsgate got rolling on this. We presume, if everything works out, it will start filming later this year.
