Henry Cavill is going to be facing the media gauntlet in the run-up to “Superman” and it will be unlike anything the actor has experienced before. With the production likely to be kept tightly under wraps — with Christopher Nolan producing, the film will probably face the same levels of secrecy as his own movies — Cavill will quickly have to learn the game of answering questions but not giving away the surprises that Zack Snyder has in store. And from his first press rounds for “Immortals” at WonderCon, the actor seems to be a quick study. We caught up with the actor — along with the rest of cast — who were meeting with press for Tarsem‘s upcoming epic and while there were no big reveals his excitement was palpable.
“Obviously incredibly excited about it; who wouldn’t be? Mega opportunity. Just getting started now. Can’t wait to get really rolling and get the suit on,” Cavill said, clearly embracing the huge career stepping stone the film affords him. And while some filmmakers may not like attention thrust on their film only because one of the stars is in someone else’s big, upcoming movie producer Mark Canton recognizes the benefits of Cavill capturing the “Superman” part in its potential to amplify the noise around “Immortals” and considers the possibility of Luke Evans taking the new Bourne role another asset in promoting the film.
Upon hearing Cavill had locked the Superman role Canton says, “I started yelling out the car window, what am I supposed to do? Thank you God.”
Indeed, this is certainly a situation where any publicity is good publicity and when you have the future Superman in your film, it can’t help but be an asset in getting the word out. “Immortals” stars Henry Cavill as Theseus, a warrior prince who leads men and gods alike into battle against titans in order to save mankind. Stephen Dorff co-stars as his sidekick Stavros, Freida Pinto as a priestess, Mickey Rourke as King Hyperion, Kellan Lutz as Poseidon, Luke Evans as Zeus, John Hurt as Old Zeus and Isabel Lucas as Athena. It hits theaters on November 11th.
Meanwhile, “Superman” is gearing up to shoot later this year with Kevin Costner and Diane Lane as Ma and Pa Kent, with Amy Adams taking on the role of Lois Lane. It will hit theaters in December 2012. —reporting by Sean Gillane
