With a big, juicy summer release date now set, “Rock of Ages” is moving full steam ahead and Adam Shankman is circling another big star for the film.
Deadline reports that three-time Oscar nominee (wow, we didn’t realize) Amy Adams is being heavily courted for a role opposite Tom Cruise in the big-budget musical. Adams is being sought to play a journalist who is doing a profile on Stacee Jaxx (Cruise) and their encounter winds up with them singing Foreigner‘s “I Want To Know What Love Is” before taking a roll in the hay. Anne Hathaway was previously offered the part but scheduling for “The Dark Knight Rises” put the kibosh on that.
Amy Adams certainly hasn’t been shy about wanting to test her pipes on screen. She apparently belts out a tune in the upcoming “The Muppets” and she’s been attached to a Janis Joplin biopic for a while now. Anyway if she signs on, she joins Julianne Hough, Alec Baldwin and Mary J. Blige in a film that follows Sherrie, the small town girl who travels to Los Angeles with dreams of making it big and falls in love. Blige takes on the part of Justice Charlier, the owner of the Sunset Strip’s exotic dance venue the Venus Club, while Baldwin snagged the part of Dennis, the owner of the ‘80s rock club The Bourbon.
So, will this be a “Burlesque” bungle or massive like “Mamma Mia!“? We’d bet on the latter. “Rock of Ages” tunes up on June 1, 2012.
