While audiences this weekend didn’t seem too eager to travel back to the 1980s as “Take Me Home Tonight” scrapes the bottom of the top ten, Hollywood is going to take another swing at the decade with a big musical; three more names have come aboard “Rock Of Ages,” joining Tom Cruise.
The Wrap spoke with director Adam Shankman this week and confirmed that “Dancing With The Stars” veteran and country singer Julianne Hough and the long rumored Mary J. Blige have joined the film. Hough lands the plum lead role of Sherrie, the small town girl who travels to Los Angeles with dreams of making it big and falls in love. Blige takes on the part of Justice Charlier, the owner of the Sunset Strip’s exotic dance venue the Venus Club.
THR reports that Alec Baldwin — also previously rumored for a part — has joined as well, taking the role of Dennis, the owner of the ‘80s rock club The Bourbon.
There are still more names to be added with Anne Hathaway and Russell Brand previously linked to roles in the film; they have not yet been confirmed.
Filming on “Rock Of Ages” is expected to start in May.
