Kate Mara & Treat Williams Join Eric Bana & Olivia Wilde In ‘Blackbird’ (aka ‘Kin’)

Sissy Spacek & Kris Kristofferson Round Out The Cast

Variety reports that Kate Mara and Treat Williams, who both featured in Danny Boyle‘s “127 Hours” but didn’t share any screen time, are set to reunite and actually appear at the same time on screen in the upcoming crime thriller “Blackbird” starring Eric Bana and Olivia Wilde.

Penned by Zach Dean, the plot follows a brother and sister team of thieves (Bana and Wilde), on the run after killing a state trooper, who collide with an ex-boxer (Charlie Hunnam). Williams and Mara will play a father and daughter who cross paths with the siblings while vets Sissy Spacek and Kris Kristofferson will show the kids how it’s done, playing Hunnam’s parents.

Stefan Ruzowitzky, whose film “The Counterfeiters” picked up the 2008 Best Foreign Language Picture Oscar, will be directing the film which begins shooting next month in Montreal. The budget is coming in at a cool $25 million bucks and has been described by the helmer somewhat mysteriously as ” a modern interpretation of the American north.”

It sounds promising, and we like that Bana continues to make interesting choices and he’ll be working with an intriguing bunch of players. No word yet on when it’ll hit, but we’d imagine if it’s in the can on time, a Sundance premiere could be in the running.
