So, are you still hoping that Warner Bros.‘ remake/adaptation of the seminal “Akira” won’t have its edges rounded off for mainstream consumption? You might want to hold that thought.
Variety reports that Steve Kloves, who has penned seven of the eight ‘Harry Potter‘ movies, has been brought on to polish the script for gestating “Akira.” The film, set to be direct by Albert and Allen Hughes has already seen a number of scribes try their hand on the script including drafts by Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby and Gary Whitta, and more recently, by Albert Torres.
While we have some strong doubts about a remake of “Akira,” the silver lining here is that Warner Bros. is at least making sure the script is in the right place. A number of actors have been rumored and/or offered the lead role but nobody has been locked in just yet. And as such, no release date has been set either.
