The first few months of the year are always relatively barren, as you may have noticed, but one of the highlights looks to be Joe Wright‘s “Hanna.” A change of pace for the director, best known for his period work on “Pride & Prejudice” and “Atonement,” the action-drama stars Saoirse Ronan as a young girl trained by her father (Eric Bana) to be a killer, and pursued by a CIA agent (Cate Blanchett), and we’ve been looking forward to the film ever since we read the excellent script last year.
The movie is still a couple of months away, but a new (rather dull) poster has appeared over at IMPA, along with the first two clips from the film, courtesy of The Guardian and Cinema Blend. The first is the same clip that our man at the New York Comic Con was somewhat underwhelmed by, featuring Ronan, Blanchett and Michelle Dockery of “Downton Abbey,” who meets a sticky end at the hands of the girl assassin, while the latter is set shortly afterwards, showing Hanna’s escape and is far more promising, showing off the score by The Chemical Brothers.
We’re still not 100% reassured across the board (Blanchett’s accent remains something of a concern), but for this writer, the signs are good for a pacy, smart, stylish action thriller, and advance word that we’ve heard is strong. “Hanna” also stars Tom Hollander, Niels Arestrup and Olivia Williams, and opens on April 8th.
