The Perils Of iChat Are Explored In Trailer For ‘Trust’

Basically, the gist of “Trust” seems to be: if you get your teenage daughter a MacBook Pro for her birthday she will be violated by an online pervert.

The latest from actor/director David Schwimmer stars Clive Owen and Catherine Keener as parents in a seemingly perfect family unit… until their daughter Annie learns how to use iChat. She becomes friends with a guy named Charlie who turns out to be totally not who he says he is, which is apparently something that happens quite often on the internet. After some very bad things happen to Annie, her parents’ world is turned upside down; Clive Owen thinks about buying a gun and Catherine Keener cries. There is also a random swipe at American Apparel advertising for some reason. Anyway, this cautionary tale premiered at TIFF last year where it received mixed reviews.

The film hits on April 1st. Check out the synopsis and trailer below (or in HD at Apple).

A suburban family is torn apart when 14-year-old Annie (Liana Liberato) meets her first boyfriend online. After months of communicating via online chat and phone, Annie discovers her friend is not who he originally claimed to be. Shocked into disbelief, her parents (Clive Owen and Catherine Keener) are shattered by their daughter’s actions and struggle to support her as she comes to terms with what has happened to her once innocent life.
