Will Speck and Josh Gordon are a directing duo whose pictures always seem to underwhelm with their outrageous concepts. “Blades Of Glory” put Will Ferrell on a skating rink which should’ve been a no brainer for hilarity but it never came together like the comedian’s best ,and this past summer’s “The Switch” with Jason Bateman and Jennifer Aniston basically spent half of its running time waiting for one character to tell the other one the wacky secret he was harboring with some labored laughs in between. But maybe their next effort will find them duo getting into the zone.
Deadline reports that Speck and Gordon have signed to direct “The Pool” for Fox. The comedy will follow “a middle-class college graduate who jumps into the job market at the worst possible time, and the only gig he gets is teaching swim lessons at a prestigious country club full of beautiful women and their older inattentive husbands.” No word yet on actors but no doubt it seems like a concept fit for somebody like in the Ferrell/Vince Vaughn/Paul Rudd/John C. Reilly crew and we won’t be surprised if offers float their way.
The script by Dan Lagana is said to be in the vein of “Risky Business” or “The Flamingo Kid” so that’s certainly promising. No word yet on when this will start lensing but once casting gets in place we’re sure the other pieces will follow.
