Plus Alex Turner’s Soundtrack Gets A Release Date
As you may have noticed, we can’t move for trailers today, what with the Super Bowl clips for many of the big movies of the year hitting overnight. But it’s taken footage from a land where football is actually played with your feet, to raise the bar, with the debut of the first trailer for Richard Ayoade‘s “Submarine” over on the film‘s official Facebook page, courtesy of Optimum Releasing. It’s been gathering steady buzz ever since its debut at the Toronto Film Festival last September, and was picked up for U.S. distribution by The Weinstein Company.
Our review from Sundance suggested it was a film to keep an eye on, and that’s more than justified by the clip, which is rather terrific — sure, there are aspects, particularly the choice of typography, which don’t help the already prevalent Wes Anderson comparisons, but Ayoade’s European influences are in evidence as well, and it looks like it’ll be able to stand on its own feet; there’s a lovely, lyrical quality to the photography, but there are plenty of laughs in there too.
The trailer is scored to the excellent choice of Jacques Brel‘s “Quand On N’A Que L’Amour (Ne Me Quitte Pas),” but the film itself features original songs by Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner, in addition to a score by Andrew Hewitt, and HitFix brings news that the soundtrack is set to be released next month. Domino Records, Turner’s regular home, will release the record for digital download in the U.K. on March 14th, with a U.S. release to follow on March 15 on Domino records.
Arctic Monkeys’ official site confirm that the record, a 6-track EP, will get a physical release on the same day, on both CD, and 10;” check out the tracklisting below. We’re finally seeing the film for ourselves next week, and we can’t wait both to hear the fruits of Turner’s labors, and to catch the picture and see if the buzz is justified.
