You gotta love who how careful everybody around “Snow White And The Huntsman” are being about Kristen Stewart taking on the titular role. Last week actress “loomed large as a potential lead” and now it seems things have taken one tiny step closer to Stewart locking the lead role.
THR reports that the the actress is now in negotiations to take on the part but cautions “the deal is not done and could still fall apart, but both sides want it to happen.” In short, no one wants to speak out of turn and get the deal fucked up. If she signs she would presumably join Viggo Mortensen and Charlize Theron (who the trade seem confident in saying she’s on board even though last week she just “in talks” and is also eyeing Ridley Scott‘s “Prometheus“). Universal has been eyeing a number of actresses for the part including Riley Keough, Felicity Jones and Alicia Vikander (and they have all screen tested) but apparently Stewart is the one they kept coming back to.
Written by Evan Daugherty, the script was high up on the 2010 Blacklist pages, and this new spin on the popular fairy tale sees the titular huntsman (Mortensen) being hired by the evil queen (Theron, if she decides to take the role) to track down her runaway stepdaughter, the fairest in all the land. When he realizes that the queen intends to kill Snow White, he helps her escape, and the pair go on the run. Apparently, the huntsman and Snow White will be chained together for a good portion of the film, and there is still a handsome prince who will win the fair lady’s heart.
Stewart is very much in demand as many studios want to take her “Twilight” tentpole power and plant it in their upcoming films. “Snow White And The Huntsman” is set to be directed by Rupert Sanders and clearly, Universal wants to start moving on this production as its already slated for juicy holiday release of December 21, 2012.
