Something we’ve been chasing the last few weeks, but could not seal the deal on. Hat tip to THR, who pulls it off first. “Black Swan” writer Mark Heyman has been tapped to write “Age Of Rage,” a project that Marc Webb had been attached to since 2008, but has almost been forgotten since it was announced far before the director became a familiar name in the film industry.
Set up over at Fox Searchlight, “Age of Rage” was once described as a “dystopian tale” and “‘Children of Men’ Meets ‘Lord of the Flies’.” Set in a near post-apocalyptic future, the film focuses on a virus that kills everyone over the age of 18, forcing a group of teenagers to band together to find the cure. Mason Novick, a producer on “(500) Days of Summer” (and Diablo Cody‘s manager), is once again shepherding this project through as well.
Heyman recently missed out on an Academy Award nomination for his “Black Swan” screenplay, but he does have the Darren Aronofsky project, “Machine Man,” set up at Mandalay as some kind of consolation. Webb is obviously directing the 3D reboot of “Spider-Man” starring Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone. While he has not settled on his next project officially, ‘Rage’ is based on his idea, so there’s a personal connection there.
