Sorry Mark Millar
This weekend a Daily Mail report casually mentioned that screenwriter Jane Goldman (“Kick Ass,” “Stardust,” “X-Men: First Class“) was busy at work penning the “Kick Ass 2” screenplay (from her bed, no less) and the story picked up traction in fanboy circles. Sorry, apostles, but Goldman herself quickly stated on Twitter that this report was false.
“Saw a few erroneous reports today that I’m currently writing Kick Ass 2 script – sorry if anyone’s disappointed, but not true,” she wrote. But of course according to the notoriously reliable comic book author Mark Millar — who said last year that the “Kick Ass” sequel would start shooting this spring (not happening) — “X-Men: First Class” director Matthew Vaughn is simply finishing up his gigantic tentpole and then getting straight back into his graphic novel adaptation, right? As you already suspected, considering it came from the film-geek world’s biggest boy-who-cried-wolf, probably not.
Goldman followed up the debunk tweet with a few more. “Currently writing for 2 other projects, then on to lovely Matthew V’s next thing (right now, looks unlikely to be [‘Kick-Ass 2’]) when ‘X-Men’ post-prod’ ends,” she wrote and then added that one of these “two other projects” was a secret one that had not been announced.
So no “Kick Ass 2” coming forthwith? Yeah, shocker, that. Other recent Millar claims you shouldn’t put much stock in either: Brad Pitt and Johnny Depp both starring in the Tony Scott-helmed adaptation of “Nemesis,” and the “Superior” adaptation locking down the most high profile actor of 2010. Of the latter, Millar said, “Official release in January.” Suuuure it is. Clock is tickin, pal.
