The bankruptcy of MGM threw a whole bunch of projects up in the air including “The Hobbit” (now gearing up to shoot next month) and “Bond 23” (which appears to be headed back into development), but the studio also had a couple of finished films on their slate that they just didn’t have the money to put out. Joss Whedon‘s “Cabin In The Woods,” originally set to come out on January 14th, was temporarily put on the shelf as was the remake of “Red Dawn” which was supposed to come out on November 24th last year. But with MGM now post-bankruptcy and with some funds to spend, these ones are apparently going to be slotted somewhere in the 2011 calendar and we know have our first look at the cast of “Red Dawn.”
Starring Chris Hemsworth (“Thor“), Josh Hutcherson (“The Kids Are All Right“), Josh Peck (“The Wackness“), Adrianne Palicki and Jeffrey Dean Morgan the film boasts some young on-the-rise talent in what could potentially be some decent brain-wasting fare. That said, it’s also the feature debut by stunt coordinator Dan Bradley, and with a script by the relatively unknown Jeremy Passmore and Carl Ellsworth (“The Last House On The Left,” “Disturbia”) this could just be plain terrible. And let’s face it, the original “Red Dawn” wasn’t that great either.
No word yet on when this will hit, but we’d imagine with Chris Hemsworth leading the cast, MGM will probably wait to ride on the wave of “Thor” and give it a second half 2011 release. But for now, this photo will have to do.
